Description: Derived parts are a powerful but easy-to-use Inventor tool. They come in two basic flavors: you can derive one part from another one, or you can derive a part from an assembly. Using derived parts, you can easily create machining models and drawings from an as-cast model, and you can create a mold from the same model. The mold cavity can be scaled to allow for shrinkage. Opposite-hand versions can also be created from the basic part, and from any subsequent derived parts. If the basic part is changed then everything updates. What better way to leverage your parts!

This presentation will show you how easy it is to set up an iPart factory. Now your designers will be able to quickly and easily pick a type of component from your library, and then specify details such as size and capacity. The iPart factory can then generate the specific part. iParts can include iMates, so the iPart components “automatically” attach themselves properly as they are inserted into an assembly. Joe is the professional services manager for Avatech's Infrastructure Solutions Group where he provides Autodesk civil engineering/survey implementation consulting services. Joe has over 16 years of experience in land surveying and civil engineering encompassing field-data collection, site design and layout, residential design and land planning. He is an EIT and a licensed land surveyor in Virginia and earned his bachelor of science degree in Civil Engineering Technology from Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia.

Eddie Johnson
Eddie is a Civil Technical Specialist for Construction Industry Solutions (COINS), U.S. Operations in Irving, Texas. With 17 years of production and design experience, he understands the real- world applications of AutoCAD® Civil 3D®. He has worked with a variety of clients on their Civil 3D implementations and design processes, including Utility, Municipal, Commercial and Transportation departments. Eddie is a skilled educator and trainer utilizing a passion for excellence, humor, and a never-say-die attitude when it comes to getting the most from Civil 3D from a production perspective. Eddie was a speaker at AU 2009 and is also the speaker for the DFW Infrastructure Round Table (DIRT).

Alex McCarthy
Alex is a solutions consultant for the IMAGINiT Solutions Consulting team. His classroom rapport was formed while teaching web design to an internationally diverse group of high school students at The American School In Switzerland’s summer program. He brings over three subsequent years of industry experience as a mechanical project engineer and manager at Edwards & Zuck, a New York-based MEP design firm. While there, he worked on a wide range of projects including core and shell design for the International Gem Tower in Midtown Manhattan, multiple Deloitte office sites nationwide, and multiple floors at 200 Park Avenue. His industry experience gives him insight into the role software plays in design process workflow.

Lynn Allen
Lynn Allen, Cadalyst columnist and Autodesk Technical Evangelist, speaks to more than 30,000 users worldwide each year. David Cohn

Rick Ellis
Rick is the founder and President of Cadapult Software Solutions, Inc. and provides training and consulting services to clients around the country, helping them get the most out of their design software investment. Bill Fane
Bill is a recovering doorknob designer, having been a product engineer and then product engineering manager for Weiser Lock in Vancouver, Canada, for 27 years. An AutoCAD user since 1986, Bill has taught AutoCAD and mechanical design at the British Columbia Institute of Technology for more than 10 years, and teaches Autodesk Inventor classes at the Institute's training center. He is an active member of the Vancouver AutoCAD Users Society, and an equally active writer. Some of his works include "The Learning Curve" column for Cadalyst magazine (since 1986) and articles in Inside AutoCAD Journal, Design Product News and Cutting Tool Engineering. He has been lecturing at AU since 1995.

Robert Green
Robert is a nationally known author, teacher and consultant with 24 years of CAD experience in a variety of applications. You've likely read his work in Cadalyst magazine, PE Magazine, The CAD Manager's Newsletter or his new book Expert CAD Management: The Complete Guide. As a consultant, public speaker and 15-year veteran of Autodesk University, Robert has taught thousands of students in CAD management, programming and CAD application usage since 1990. When Robert isn't writing or teaching, he heads The Robert Green Consulting Group, which provides consulting and programming services for clients throughout the U.S. and Canada. Robert holds a degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Georgia Institute of Technology and resides in the greater Atlanta area.
